(For those of you who are receiving these emails for the first time, this is normally a blog that I've created to keep people up to date with Owen, but every once in a while, I have other news to post)
Okay, so as most of you know, I found my iguana dead in her cage about a month ago. Last week, one of my parents' cats disappeared and was subsequently found, eaten by a coyote. Well, things couldn't get any worse, right? WRONG!
I took Zero to the vet a couple of weeks ago because he seemed to be losing weight and was making a strange sound. After x-rays were taken, it was determined that he had fluid that was either in his lungs or around his heart. We came home with antibiotics, and were told to keep an eye on him.
Last night, I heard him making the sounds again, so I decided to take him to the vet. When I did, he started coughing up bloody mucus, foaming at the mouth, and panting, while lying on his side. They put him on oxygen, but said that he had probably a 20-30% chance of surviving. I had to make the agonizing decision to put poor Zero to sleep.
I am just devastated you guys. I can't believe I'm going through this again. What did I do to deserve this?! Who have I pissed off?! To make things worse, he wasn't even technically my cat. I had taken him in, along with his step-sister Minnie, because a friend of mine couldn't take care of them anymore. It broke my heart to call him and tell him that he lost one of his kids. He hadn't seen them in a few years, so that makes me feel even shittier.
And just for kicks, Owen has a fever of 102.7 right now. He took a one-hour nap earlier today, and even though he seems to be down to just one nap a day now, he's taking another one right now.
